The encounters that spring to mind are such as Bodhi's lair, or any of the Liches (especially Kangaxx) - a scroll of protection against undead or magic will see you through - something that just isn't possible with a party. You can also keep your entire party invisible most of the time to avoid encounters you don't like.
In many cases Soloing can be too easy - you have to restrict yourself and try to play fair.
