I tend to agree with Alson about solo-ing actually being easier most of the time. When it's Just You (particularly, as you said, if you know what's coming) & you are generally a much higher level than you are "supposed to be" at that point in the game, it's so easy to prepare / hit / run / Sunfire / Whirlwind / Backstab / whatever. When you have a party to worry about, the tactics are so much more interesting, IMO.
Even if you know what's coming, protecting Aerie / Imoen / Edwin / whoever is a major tactical consideration which I consider much more enjoyable to deal with than if I know that all I have to concentrate on is getting ME out of harm's way (which is generally pretty easy).
