It can be a lot easier - especially some of the set piece battles. Think defensively - you've only got 1 person to protect which makes potions/scrolls a lot more useful.
The best thing about solo-ing is just quite how much you can learn about the abilities of a single class. I never use my mages to their full capability, so my next solo will be a magic user (I like the idea of a bard) which should give me a better idea of quite what they can do.
