LARGO, Fla. -- A man was arrested on a child pornography charge after a passer-by found computer discs in his trash that held about 75 sexual photographs of young girls, police said.
The woman took the discs home, put them into her computer and found the images, authorities said. She reported her discovery to police.

Edward J. Mitskevich, 59, was arrested Monday on a felony charge of child pornography possession. He was booked into the Pinellas County Jail, then posted $5,000 bond and was released the same day, a jail official said Wednesday. Directory assistance did not list a phone number for Mitskevich and jail officials said records did not show any attorney listed for him.

Largo police Detective Joe Coyle said Mitskevich admitted to downloading the pornographic photos from the Internet about five years ago, then saving them on the discs.

Mitskevich threw away the discs, along with an old fax machine, which he placed in a garbage container in his driveway, Coyle said.

The passer-by retrieved the machine and the discs from the trash.

Though the woman didn't know Mitskevich, his name was on a container that held the discs. There also were personal photographs of Mitskevich on the discs.

The child pornography photos show girls under the age of 10 involved in various sexual activities, according to the arrest report.

Coyle said Mitskevich told police he ran a magnet over the discs in an attempt to erase them before throwing them away.
This article make me irritated and sad at the same time. Why would someone have things like that on floppys and why would someone who can afford a computer be digging through someone elses trash? I wonder why the "passer by" wasnt charged with theft for takeing the fax machine and the disks?? Do you lose the right to your property once you put it out in the trash?? Sure you are throwing it away , but it is still YOUR trash!! If you lose the right to it, then I guess stealing trash cans is ok , since they are at curbside with the rest of the trash.Busy bodies who have to get people in trouble piss me off.
