There's a known bug with edwin, where he gets too many spellslots at certain lvl ups .. the game later " fixes " this by actually reducing spellslots at lvl ups after that.
I'm not sure the game gives the appropiate spellslots though, you should check with your manual ( has a table with the number of spellslots per lvl, edwin gets +3 per lvl extra . .1 for being a specialist mage, 2 from his amulet ).
If it doesnt give the appropiate spellslots, baldurdash has a fix i believe.
