On Parent/Child relationships I remember the saying "When I was a child I thought as a child, acted as a child, but when I became a Man I put away Childish things". As the parent, the One that is supposed to be grown-up and more experianced. I could never justify letting one of my daughters when they were little decide for themselves on most matters, as they grew older My wife and I gradualy let them decide more and more things for themselves based on our guidance.
It's interesting what one person will consider being forced, and another will consider Guidance, I guess it a matter of age.
