Its actually increadibly useful, espically for something like spoilers where you can just ROT-13 the text, put a message above it saying "Spoiler about foo below. ROT-13" and then let people decide if they want to read the spoiler or not.

Too bad there are not any web-based forums that I know of that support it.
Usenet on the other hand tends to use it once in a while, as most good news readers will let you just highlight and click something to ROT-13 the text.
