The thing is, most players (admittedly, myself included) tend to reload if one of their characters suffers a "permanent death".
I'm talking Insane difficlty here, where permanent death is quite common.
That gives the edge to soloing - it's much easier to keep one demigod alive rather than 6 "normal" characters.
