Yes, there's a difference.
A multiclass starts out as a multiclass, e.g. Fighter/Mage, and levels up in both these classes.
The dualclass, however, starts out as one class, and then changes to another class. After this change is made, the character only levels up in the second class, and can not use the skills of it's previous class until the new class is one level higher than the previous class.
