It's sad how Christmas has for most people become a time when if you don't give and receive lots of stuff it's no good. And even if you can't afford lots of stuff you deserve lots of stuff so you put it all on your credit card and then are in debt till Christmas rolls around again (or after). My mum and I were talking yesterday about what we were going to get people for Christmas, we have something for my brother but it's not enough...

You know, an interesting thing I heard in a psych course was that in the northern hemisphere, more people commit suicide in winter, supposedly because of the coldness and so on, so dreary. But in the southern hemisphere the same time (ie Dec-Feb) has the most suicides, which is summer! So it's actually hard to know whether it's because of winter at all.

Anyway, that was cheery . Maybe you could set some sort of limit of spending with the people you have to buy for? Like everyone buys gifts for under $10 or something.
