How easy we forget COINTELPRO. Goverment should keep a database on CRIMINALS, not citizens.
Besides, the sheer principle of the matter. The ideaology of personal liberty, already a precious commodity, is at stake.

Can you name any person that has ever successfully hacked NSA? or any of the 1000 most secure servers in the security net?
Security when done right is effective.
