Yes, it is.
There are heaps of good Quarterstaves in the game (Rhyn, Striking, Fire, Magi, Power, Woodlands, etc). Many of the Staves have unique features which can prove to be very useful. After your Fighter/Thief will pick Use Any Item (he will, right?
), the potential grows even bigger.
