The rain fell heavy on my around me as I walked alone. It was a quite night devoid of the sound of man and beast, filled with just the soft whistle the wind blowing through the trees nearby. Contently I sighed and decided to rest here till morning, dropping to the ground I pull the brim of my hat down and watched the rain roll of the edge. A scream and the harsh sound many foot falls stirred my thoughts and a women collapsed beside me, her cloths were all but ripped from her and she bled from many wounds covering her body. "Please help! They killed my husband and attacked my daughter an....." The strange words meant nothing to me, a whimper came from behind her, a young girl. She looked no older the twelve seasons and seemed no better then the woman. Rising to my feet I turn from them facing the people from who they ran, slowly drawing my knives I pounced. My first knife found a home in a throat, blood pulsed along it length, the second between some ribs a quite hiss escaped the wound. My teachings of the human form lead my strokes, a nip here an arm fell limp, a slash there caused a fountain of blood. My blades moved through the air slowly before my eyes, the moon light shinning off their sides. It was like I watched the fight from some else’s body, the way the flesh parted before the tips of the knives, the sweet scent of blood, the screams of pain. I fought to push such thought from mind and to concentrate on the melee before me. A sword broke through the night, it edge cutting the silk of my outfit. Thrusting a knife to block I found a broken wooden shaft in it place, probability a axe handle I mused as the shattered remains of his eye pulsed over the socket. Pulling the sword from my last victims hands I brought it in a underhand grip across the gut of one and forward the blade finding a new sheath in another’s skull, hungrily I watched the life pour from her eyes and knew no more, my body lost to the dance of violence.
I awoke to the dawn sun, I found myself naked, the bodies to those I fought laying around me. The taste of blood filled my mouth and covered my neck and lower arms, slowly I rose to my feet and looked for the people I helped. Both were close by the child huddled over the women’s unmoving, naked form, dead. "Who?" I asked as best I could. The girl crawled away as I approached, her legs looks battered and a trail of blood run down the thigh but apart from that her body seemed no worse then last night. Fear showed in her face when she looked at me and tears randown her checks. Carefully I gathered what remained of my tattered clothing and collected my pack, leaving a crude map to civilisation and some food for the child and set out. Hopefully this day will turn out better for me and the creature with in will not waken but a last night had shown this isn't the time for a woman, let alone a half naked one, to be on the road.
