Well, you could prepare yourself a little by listening to some Gothic first... Perhaps then the difference between your regular taste and opera isn't that big. But I'm sure others can provide some names of crossover-ish artists in the metal/opera genre. I'm not to sure myself who to mention as I simply don't listen to that stuff... But Blind Guardian perhaps?
