Do you know where your on-board graphics chip is on your motherboard? You might find a "disable" jumper near it or something to that effect. Also, does the on-board graphics thing use AGP? If not, in your BIOS you could try setting AGP graphics to be the default then maybe it'll just look for a card in the AGP slot and find your new one?
