I soloed one for a while,..
And I must say, the Avenger-kit is the only kit there is, that'll make Irenicus' dungeon ( not the improved one) fun to do.
The avenger's ability to shapeshoft into a sword spider with a poisonous attack is incredibly fun. See those pesky kobolds ( or whatever they are) run away, while the poison's eating them alive.

Lvling up,.. the abilities ( such as gaining the ability to transform into a greater Fire elemental ), even the special abilities only avengers obtain, are pretty much useless .. but the penalties you suffer from being an Avenger
( -1 for some stats) are negligable. Those stats ( I believe str. and con. ) dont matter. Str. is good at 17 or lower 'cause of belts later on,.. con. higher than 16 only matters for fighters, so a max. of 17 doesnt matter.
