It's a makeshift knife.

You could sharpen the end of a tooth brush and make a deadly mini-spear for stabbing due to the strength of the toothbrush material. In the movies, you'll often see a butter knife, fork, or spoon secreted out of the cafeteria and sharpened to make a weapon as well using tape or other wrapping for the handle.
