I learned just today that there are four ways to die in a house fire. I knew three of them until today.
1. Burned
2. Smoke inhalation, Carbon Monoxide inhalation, or lack of oxygen
3. Damaged ceiling and roof caving in on you.
4. Breathing hot air.
The fourth one, breathing hot air, is one that I had not considered. In an enclosed fire, where little or no hea is escaping, the temprature of the air will rise. If it reaches 160 degrees, you die if you inhale the heat. Your insides cannot take the heat shock. I had never thought of that before. A firefighter's gas mask is also a climate-controlled air.
