I found the Improved Ilyich MOD very fun - it is a great tactical challenge which requires non-trivial thinking.

Is there any other measure of difficulty thats relevant to the player?
Non-trivial is right. Im taking a solo sorc through it on insane now. Havent managed to kill a single shadow thief yet. May have to drop the difficulty but Ill give it a few more goes. It would help if the thieves didnt have the ability to kill me in one shot. Damned wands. And they can use them even when paniced![/QUOTE]Well the thief/mages only have one direct damage wand, which is cone of cold. And that can easily be evaded by just running from it. For a sorcerer I thought the Irenicus dungeon was rather easy, stoneskin rendered all melee-only foes pretty much harmless and one or two rests worth of skull traps took care of Iliych and his party in an instant.
Doing it with a fighter is a *tad* more difficult. When my solo Inquisitor took on his Iliych I had to separate him from the rest of his band by running to the centre room and closing the door just after Iliych got in. It STILL took me almost two hours and countless reloads to beat him with Hit'n'Run tactics while preserving enough potions to take out his remaining four allies.
