Hey Glorfy! Good to see you back!
Saz, the sorting isn't as big a deal once you get a system going! We've had to sort out cans/bottles and paper for several years now in my city. Luckily we can put the cans and glass in one container and paper in a separate one. No sorting the metal and glass from ea/other at least! Still, we have to take the labels and lids off. Those get trashed, the rest gets recycled. Soda cans and bottles are all returnable to grocery stores here. For many years we have had a deposit law in NY and most of New England as well. You pay 5 or 10 cents extra per bottle or can when you purchase them and it's refunded when you turn the bottle or can in a the (or any) store.
So I've got a bag on a stand under the kitchen sink for the recyclable cans/bottles and a small plastic can near the counter for the soda/drink bottles and cans. Paper products, including newspapers go into a paper bag in the basement.
