He probably changed ISPs and then realised that hes lost his password. Fortunatley he can still pick up his old emails. Usualy theres an online service, or Outlook can do it if you have the settings, username and password.

He needs to find the POP3 server of the old ISP, the username and the password. Given that, he can retrieve his old emails from anywhere on the planet.

You cant send this way though, most ISPs will refuse to relay and outgoing email that isnt coming in through there own system.
