You realize, of course, that commercials are supposed to be annoying, because it makes you pay attention more. Think of the commercial you hate the most. Now name the product. That commercial was a success.
Is it "successful" if the customer is so annoyed that they remember the product for years and refuse to purchase it? Brand recognition does not necessarily lead to purchasing behavior. Take it from a consumer behaviorist...irritating advertising tactics do not work over the long run and can actually be far reaching in their damages to company image.

I agree that the "Dude, you're gettin' a Dell" ad is definitely becoming a cultural icon. It will be part of the 2000's time capsule, like "Where's the Beef" and "Spuds McKenzie" was for the 1980's, and the "Yo Quiero Taco Bell" chihuahua was for the 90's. Like all pop cultural icons, it will eventually fade away as well.

Watching TV was a habit I gave up years ago. Somewhere between "American Gladiators", "Full House", and "Married with Children", I decided that TV had degenerated past the lowest common denominator of trash and turned it off. I watch maybe 1 hour of TV for every two weeks; predominantly "Weather Channel" and the "News" (most of which I get from the Internet anyway). I haven't missed it. So most of the ads you are mentioning I've never seen nor heard of.
