The disk shuffling is minimal. The game typically asks you to insert CD #3 or #4 *once* per game, the first time you enter it for the particular session. You always start with CD#2 in the drive (it's needed to start up the game).
It works something like this:
- you start with #2 in the drive. If you have no CD or another CD the game will ask you to insert #2.
- if you travel to an area which needs another CD, the game will ask you to insert it. If you travel back to an area you previously visited, there is no need to reinsert the previous CD.
- save games in an area that required you to insert a CD do not need that CD when you load the save.
For example, you start your game with CD #2 in the drive and are exploring the city (Athkatla). When you travel to the Temple District, the game will ask you to insert CD#3. Then you leave the Temple District and go to where you came from (say, the Slums which is on CD#2). You do NOT need to insert CD#2 back in the drive as (I believe) the game stores the relevant information as a temporary cache on your hard disk.
Say you save the game and quit when you are in the Temple District. When you start a new session and load that save, the game will not ask you to insert CD#3 - you can play with CD#2 in the drive.
You do not need CD#1 at all after the game is installed.
