Do you ask if and where? There are not really many crossbows and the best is light crossbow of speed - you can buy it early in Beregost. There are other crossbows but not before chpater 5 if I remember well. Coming to mail - in chapter 3 you can get full plate armour (AC =1, add cloak or ring of protection and have AC=0) why would you like to have splint mail+1 (if I remember well if some class can use splint mail can also use plate mail)?
