Good for you that you haven't smoked before, and if I were you, I'd keep that up.
Once you start, it's hard to quit, but if you resolve not to touch the stuff, it's easy to keep it up.
Personally I think it's a filthy habit - I don't mind if other people smoke, as long as they keep their smoke out of my face - I'm allergic to it. My father's a very heavy smoker and inconsiderate of non-smokers to boot. Instead of realising his habit is very annoying for others, he will actually be half-insulted if you ask him to try not to blow smoke in your face.
My sister and I frequently had to endure sitting in a closed car with him while he smoked heavy tobacco. Both of us sing in a choir as well, so it was doubly bad. Since then, I know I've got a bit of a radical attitude against smoking.
Still, I have a few friends who smoke, and I don't mind at all...
I just don't see why anyone would *start* smoking in the first place. I can completely understand why they'd continue - nicotine is extremely addictive. But why start? Smoking can cause all kinds of cancer, impotence, it can harm unborn children, it's been proven that passive smoking can harm people, it makes you smell bad and your teeth and nails yellow... LOL, not trying to offend any smokers here, it's just hard to understand why anyone, in this day and age, would want to start smoking
Edit: oh and like Earthdog mentioned, there's the cost to consider as well... you could buy tons of nice stuff with the money you save from not smoking
