IMO, the best weapon for a mage is his/her spells... I may be mistaken

Melf's Minute Meteors are greater than the sling, because they set your attack rate to 5/round. Thats awesome! And do not forget the additional fire damage

After all, why would a mage use a weapon other than a Staff of the Magi???
