I wouldn't mind the XP cap if it wasn't so LOW--there's more experience in straight BG1 (without ToSC) than the XP cap for ToSC! Which means you hit the cap about halfway through the game, and who wants to spend the entire second half of Baldur's Gate with characters that aren't getting any better? THAT'S why I think most people remove the cap. BioWare would have done well to set the caps for BG1 and ToSC at 160,000 and 260,000, respectively.
