Thanks Wellard. [img]smile.gif[/img] And yes, after WWI, everything that could have gone wrong did go wrong. The victors bled the losers dry (Versailles), which cleared the way for a new wave of nationalism in countries such as Germany. Worse, the League of Nations (which lacked support from the Great Powers) did not provide an effective framework for guarding the peace. I'm just glad these mistakes weren't repeated after WWII. The UN is much more efficient than the League and the predecessors of the EU allowed winners and losers alike to get back on their feet. Of course, having the Soviet Union as a neighbour also played its part in bringing together former foes in the West.
