Oooo, don't get me started on the Legal Language issue. If I moved to Amsterdam, legally or illegally, I wouldn't expect that they change their language to accomodate me. I would learn the language. It's respectful, for one thing, and way egotistical to think that others should accomodate me because I'm too lazy to learn to speak their language.
My grandfather, on my mother's side, came to the US from Germany prior to WW2. Guess what. I can't speak German. Why? Because he insisted that English be spoken in his home. He came here to escape the Nazi thing, and since things were worse for him there, he immigrated here, legally, and learned to speak the language out of respect for a country that provided him asylum, albeit not officially, but in principle, it's the same thing.
Personally, I'm tired of going to the grocery store and not being able to translate what's on the shelves because it's in Spanish. As far as I'm concerned, if you want to shop in Spanish, you need to go where it's the official language. Try going to Brazil, and forcing them to accept English as the official language.
Want to become a US citizen, do the paper work, in English. For those illegals thinking they deserve amnesty, fine, do the paperwork required to become a legal citizen, in English. Otherwise, go home. The first European people to settle here may have been illegal immigrants, but 1/2 of my blood line was here when they got here. If we want to play trump cards, then I'm holding a pretty good one.
To Timber's post about who voted where, I'm dismayed to see that Brownback voted to give legitimate tax payer money to illegl aliens, and will be sending him a letter to that effect. I sent a copy/pasted version of that to my mom, the spam queen, to forward to all her cronies. This kind of thing is why I'm having such a hard time getting the services I need. I'm a Native Born, Caucasian Male. In the eyes of the government, no matter how dire my situation is, I'm the priveledged class. Bite me. The part of my adult life I spent as a productive member of society I paid into the Social Security system. That entitles me to that money. How does an illegal immigrant have any claim to it?
