I believe the ‘European’ policy on dealing with illegal immigration was mentioned earlier in this thread. Allow me to point out that our system has recently changed. Yes, the various EU-countries are still patrolling to Mediterranean together (and will continue to do so), but the European Commission has recently realized that it is impossible to keep out the waves of illegal immigrants who try to cross the sea in their makeshift rafts on a daily basis. For each illegal they find adrift in the sea, another few hundred land on the Span-ish, Maltese or Italian coasts. The new policy is attempting to cut off illegal immigration at the source. For instance, by providing more jobs locally, but also by increasing the possibilities for legal immigration. As for cutting back on UN payments, I’d like to point out that ‘Europe’ gives 55- to 60 percent of all global aid. Although we also tend to leech the Third World dry with our agricultural policies (which are slowly changing, thank god).
