Timber - I agree 100%. I think the sexual aspect of all this is often overlooked, but it's all seriously messed up over there.
I remember an eyewitness account of OBL (with all the usual caveats in reliability of course) saying that he once witnessed one of the females in his family not 'properly' garbed (but not indecent) and completely froze and was unable to function.
Repression of sexual desire strengthened by the desire to be devout...I guess we're been through that stage with Monks, but it's rather scary that whole regions are affected by this.
Having said that, I do know devout Muslims who, whilst being conservative, are certainly no more so than my grandparents for example. It's not a lost cause
