Telic originates from the Greek 'Telos' final - but in the modern sense, it conveys the act of moving towards an end goal.

I would agree with you that it is perhaps an inappropriate name, but not because it doesn't sound nice, but rather because the word is often interchanged with the phrase 'final solution' - a phrase with obvious negative connotations.
