When the war comes (not if), He'll say something like: "We would have liked to avoid this, but Saddam Hussein wouldn't give up his WoMD ........."
He will say that even though he has no evidence of it?
The problem is that UN resolution 1441 (behind sending the recent weapon inspectors) state that Iraq has to prove that it hasn't got any WoMD. So just because the UN inspectors can't find any doesn't mean that Iraq is in the clear.

Also - the US government has already stated that it reserves the right to interprit the inspectors rapport (due 27. Jan) themselves and act accordingly - i.e. attack without going back to the Secuerity Council.
You are forgetting that the 1441 resolution is NOT the only resolution concerning Iraq, there are also others dating back some 10 years that are in theory still waiting to be enforced. You are right in that the US has reserved the right to ignore the UN and the Security Council. If the Security Council isn't doing its real job or the UN is not serving the Interest of the US, there is no real reason why the US should utilize those offices. Other than it ticks them off, and illustrates just how inneffective the whole UN has become. Im not happy about that, but it has been decades since the UN has done anything really effective anywhere on the globe.....unless it has been backed up by the US. (I will qualify that last statement...by saing "That I know of")
