You're not exactly correct about why the US backed out of the Korean War. It was less about the alliance between NK and China than it was about the alliance between China and the USSR at the time. The US didn't attack/bomb inside the Chinese border (i.e. across the Yalu (sp?) River) for fear that the USSR would attack Western Europe. Remember, General MacArthur got fired over this.
