Yes, there are a lot of diverse cultures and individual experiences to deal with on IW. This case is a perfect example of what I said earlier, we don't KNOW how another will take those zinger comments and sometimes it's just better to haul out the milk and cookies before you test the jalapenos. 
SC, I really hope you understand that my comments were genuinely meant to make things better for all posters here at IW, yourself included. (and not in a patronising way!) I am sorry you had the misunderstanding with Hiram. I'm sure it's been stressful for you and I hope he comes back or answers his mails soon.
