Only go as far as level 13 if you have ToB installed, but waiting until level 13 will grant your Kensai a +4 bonus to THAC0 (which is pretty poor at level 9), an additional +1 to hit, +1 to damage and -1 to weapon speed from the kensai bonuses, an additional weapon proficiency and the all important extra 1/2 attack per round from level 13.
I wonder why people forget about Cernd as a druid. He'll have better spell casting abilities over Jaheria since he's a pure druid, and the ability to change into a greater werewolf is awesome since it rips anything apart and has a rock bottom AC........
