The US army is to launch an investigation into allegations of torture at the Guantanamo Bay naval base in Cuba. Most of the 500 suspected terrorists being held at the base were arrested in Afghanistan.

The investigation was prompted by a series of emails sent by FBI agents that were published last month. The agents reportedly witnessed prisoners being beaten and tortured with burning cigarettes.

Others were shackled hand and foot in a fetal position on a floor for up to 24 hours and denied permission to use a toilet. Other forms of torture included locking prisoners up in sweltering rooms for long periods or exposing them to loud music and flashing lights for several hours.

Many of the suspects have been held at Guantanamo for years without being charged.

You know.. we could use give them a hug and a footmassage, and they might spill their guts. Don't laugh.. has it ever been tried before?
