If your really interested the science of climate. I highly recommend Octobers special issue of Scientific American. It really reveals a lot obout the Effect the Sun plays and how it is now affecting over all weather patterns and temperatures. The science is top notch and it goes a long way toward explaining some long term trends in our weather patterns.

It is titled "The Secret Livesof Stars" and while it has alot about Stars in general and the various kinds..it has a lot of information on our Sun.

Their website is www.sciam.com Don't know how much of thiss tuff they have on line but it makes for great reading.
