Drunk driver hits cop car By Mark Moor and Geraldine Mitchell September 4, 2004 . TWO Melbourne police officers on the prowl for drink-drivers got their man the hard way early yesterday when a motorist more than three times the legal limit hit their car. . The Knox officers escaped serious injury when the drink-driver smashed into their car head-on in the car park of the Ferntree Gully Hotel about 12.20am. . The officers were at the hotel, near the Burwood Highway, as part of a traffic operation. . Victoria Police traffic management unit's Senior-Sergeant Leo Potter said the officers saw the car fish-tailing towards them. . "They didn't have anywhere to go," he said. "It wouldn't have mattered which way they went, they couldn't get out of it." . The 28-year-old driver's licence was suspended after he recorded a blood alcohol level of .166 – more than three times the legal limit. . The man has been charged with traffic offences including careless driving and drink-driving. . He was not injured in the crash, but the two police officers suffered minor injuries. . Herald Sun .
