Haven't had time to thoroughly review the above articles, but I just wanted to chime in that the news this weekend showed problems with British soldiers, too. And, TB knew about them 3 months ago, just like Rummie and Bush.
As for transparency, I think it's good enough. The Government saw the problem, and investigated it, and is taking measures to correct it and punish those responsible. Not leaking the news until the investigations were complete is not a big "lie" in my view.
In my view, the Pentagon approving "tougher interrogations" is not wrong -- so long as it is still ordering things that comply with the Geneva Conventions.
All around -- it's a mar on the process. However, by dealing with it appropriately, our nations can exhibit a degree of compassion not seen for many decades in Iraq.
