This is how these things are perpetuated. He was told, live on air, that US troops had entered Baghdad, he said "...well I can't see them". That's not a lie is it? Of course he had been taken to the location by the Iraqi authorites so his comments need to be taken in that context. Just as those comments by inbedded journalists had to be taken in context.
