I just cannot understand why anybody should buy a SUV. These are the prices in Italy - and I guess the ratios, if not the absolute numbers are the same around the world.
Bmw X5: 48 to 64k €
Bmw z4: 33 to 41k €
Bmw 525i: 35 to 65k €
(base - no optionals)
Why the hell should I buy a slow, ungainly truck - that's what SUV stands for, Slow Ungainly Vehicle - when I could for the same price (or even less!) buy a slender, graceful and fast car? I dunno about SUV drivers, but if you suffer of an inferiority coplex, a Bmw 525 4.0 (or a CLK mercedes for that matter) won't certainly make it worse
Besides, although the statistics in the article cited by TL seem to be used a bit too shallowly, SUV are indeed prone to rollover and difficult to drive. If safety is your concern, a good sedan is much more reliable when things get dangerous.
Of course both cars are fuel hogs and environment wreckers, but what the hell, the sedan at least gives you something when you floor the pedal!
