On other possibilty for beeing not able to save is, if somebody wants to talk to you and cannot reach you. I had this, when the boy who talks to Minsc to help out in the Umar Hills. I walked across Waukeens Promende into an Inn and the boy was to slow or something else to catch up with me. Of course I didnīt know he was looking for me and I wasnt able to save and to sleep. Fortunately, I walked outside again and the boy cathed me in the end. After the dialog, everything was normal again.
