I'm not sure what his spending habits were in Texas, but I do remember that he was the CEO of one of the financial institutions that crashed and burned during the Savings & Loan Scandal in the late 80's (before he became Governor of Texas). It is also no secret that he does owe a lot of allegiance to his corporate sponsors.

On the other hand, I do believe that President Bush is a man of deep convictions and integrity and I would hope that more of those qualities would present themselves if he were elected to second term..since he would no longer have to worry about pleasing the powers that helped put him in office.

Just as a general rule and not necessarily just Bush related here, second terms for a president is where you see what he really believes come out. He doesn't have to worry about reelection and can focus directly on exactly what he wants to get done while he is still president.

We may see a completely different Bush in 2005 where domestic spending is concerned. Right now, it is important for him to steal as many Democratic planks and voters while Dean and the rest of the Dems duke it out. Free of the burden of campaining, he will be able to start working on cuts no matter what special interest group they offend....If he does start cuts...at this point..Im hoping his spending is based on reelection strategy and doesn't follow through to next year. Of course with the precident recently set, he may resort to a lot of Executive orders to accomplish things he can't get the votes in congress on.....we will see. I still have faith that the man is as you said, a man of integrity and convictions.

(please no one do the word play on the word convictions...it's too easy and would just be tacky )
