take for example a homeowner who has a dog, a big dog, that barks during the night. a neighbour complains about the dog's barking, so the dog is chained out along the back fence for short periods. this happens during a rainstorm and another neighbour (or perhaps the same one) complains the dog is neglected out in the rain.

yes, a dog spending 30 minutes in the rain is hardly comparable to thousands of animals cruelly put down. the analogy just illustrates how easily butting your nose into someone else's problems with a "helpful" suggestion can sometimes lead to unintended consequences which are worse than the problem you complained about in the first place.

two wrongs dont make a right, china is responsible for the animals they've "culled", and for how they've gone about it.

perhaps we can all learn something so that next time we think before screaming for the neighbour to do something.
sultan - So...this is really the fault of the west, huh? I'm sorry, but you have GOT to be joking!!! It's our fault that China has chosen to commit mass eradication of a species of animals???

First of all, I would like to know exactly what demands "the West" placed on China that led them to make this decision.

Even if these "demands" were made - considering the fact that the SARS outbreak could have become a global epidemic, I think it was very reasonable for ALL other concerned countries to urge China to find a cure/solution to the best of their ability. If any demands were made, then I would imagine it was because China was dragging their heels in their efforts to find a cure/solution or the source of the outbreak.

BTW..one question I just have to ask about this....

WHERE THE HELL IS P.E.T.A. WHEN YOU REALLY NEED THEM???

Seems to me they should be all over something like this - rather than trying to stop innocent celebrations like the Possum Drop
