Well, I got a bit rankled at this:

One problem was money. He started a job at the college television studio — a job Dr. Jackson lined up for him — but he said that working 25 hours a week interfered with his studying.

Well, let me fund the pity party. Look, I pulled 35-40 hrs/wk during college at a job 1 hour away from my school, and still found time to have girlfriends and party my ass off.
What's with kids these days? My wife's sister needs a car, needs money for school, is a senior in high school, and has not job. By the time my wife was that age, she was making payments on a $22K car and working 40 hours/week. My first job was when I was 15.
This guy's got a job that basically translates to on-campus work study for 25 hours/week. Sorry it cuts into some bong-time, but hell that's CUSHY as far as I'm concerned.
