i'm sorry i dont have references for this, but i'll throw it out there anyway...

i seem to recall reading a story about the US's stationing military in saudi arabia. in order to have US troops there, the saudi's, who have long had relationships with terrorist organisations, agreed to use their influence to ensure that US targets in saudi arabia would not be hit by terrorists. instead, the terrorists would hit targets of "collaborators".

this has brough the saudi govt under pressure from within, because even the "morning ablutions of heathens" such as the non-Islam US military is seen as a desecration of their holy land (read: not holyland).

the article i'm thinking of referenced the idea that by taking Iraq, the US would find a better place for their military presence in the middle east (ie iraq), thereby relieving the pressure on the saudi govt to get the US out of there.

so, i wonder if the terrorist attacks on foreigners is a signal from the terrorists that the US got what it wanted, now it's time for them to go...

has anyone else read the article, or seen something like it, that i'm referring to??
