I dont think it is the American way of life that is heinous to many Iraqis. I read a great article few weeks ago about the booming consumerism, particularly with consumer electronics, that is exploding across Iraq and alot of Iraqi youth love video games and western pop music.
That said, it has been revealed that most analysts doubted before the war that democracy like ours will work in Iraq. We are taking a big gamble and I agree that it will take alot of time, blood, sweat, tears, and souls to succeed.
Alot more than we were sold, um... I mean, told before the war.
The reasons for anti-American sentiment are more complex than just disliking our way of life. Amongst other issues, I think it has a little something to do with mis-respecting the Iraqi/Arab/Muslim way of life. Alot has been done that trampled over some of those customs and traditions that probably won't be soon forgotten by some and they will seek revenge becasue that too is a matter of culture and tradition. Old habits die-hard and we can't expect them to bend to our will just because we think our way is better. The people have to come to that decision themselves.
