It may have been, I seem to recall the Poles were responsible for a great many things in WWII, that they weren't given the proper credit for. I see Faceman already answered the question. IIRC the allies went to great extremes to keep the breaking of the code secret, it seems to me the allies even alowed some missions to fail because to do otherwise could have jepordised(sp?) the breaking of the code. IIRC there were some ships and airplanes destroyed, but I can't recall for sure.
