Well, your post seems to ignore the efforts of the CIA (pressured by Nixon and Kissinger) to help Pinochet in his little rebellion, and the efforts to make sure he stayed in power. Most of the records concerning CIA actions in Chile were made public back in 2000, so most of the dirty secrets are known if one cares to look.

I would recomend anyone who is really interested in learning about the US involvement read "The Pinochet File" by Peter Kornbluh. The book is somewhat excessive in the conclusions it draws, but it does have chuncks of interesting communications in it.
